Helping Dunston Go Green

25th October 2016 | CSR

“Dunston Goes Green” is a unique educational experience provided by Dunston Hill Community Primary School, offering children the opportunity to develop confidence through hands-on learning in a woodland environment. The scheme teaches children basic fieldcraft such as shelter building, fire-lighting, tool use, cookery, rope work and tracking, encouraging them to work as teams to develop their personal skills and learn real-life, usable skills.

Dunston Hill CPS have made a huge investment in time and money to create an outdoor learning centre, containing flower beds, orchard, fire pit and woodland areas, and reached out to a number of local companies for financial assistance to support their growing facility. The project has very similar objectives to our company values of environmental awareness, conservation and youth development, so we were happy to help.

Speaking about the project, Dunston Hill CPS Business Manager Louise Briggs said; “United Carlton’s financial support towards our “Dunston Goes Green Project” will assist us to purchase resources for our outdoor classroom, so that our school community can access green space in all weathers. Our project will enable our families to gain a greater understanding of nature, recycling and the environment. There will also be many benefits on health and well-being of our pupils, by promoting a healthier, more active lifestyle. We will provide opportunities for our community to learn new skills and grow in confidence, and therefore having better chances in life.”
